Frozen pizza bases?
Nah.
Our bases are the skeleton our meat and cheese attaches to.
Without a good base, you got nothin.
We also smoke our own meat, make our own sauces, etc.
Basically if we can make it, we do.

ONCE UPON A TIME…

When I was but a wee skeleton I decided I’d better learn a trade just in case. So I learnt to bake.
After covid, the career “break in case of emergency” case was required, and so I went back to basics and found that baking is a bit like riding a bike.
Now, I could have used the food trailer to make meth, but although not nearly as lucritive, pizza seemed like a safer way to dough.

PIZZA TO THE PEOPLE

To put it bluntly, New Zealand's relationship with pizza is still in its infancy.

We don't have centuries of pizza-making tradition. For most of us, pizza was introduced by multinational chains that turned an artisan food into a mass-produced convenience. Frozen dough, sugary sauce, generic toppings, and conveyor ovens became the standard. Somewhere along the way, the craft was lost.

That's not us.

At Skeleton Pi, pizza starts with the dough, because dough is the pizza. Everything else is there to complement it.

Traditional pizza wasn't about piling on toppings. It was beautifully simple a well-fermented dough, a little marinara, fresh mozzarella, perhaps a few basil leaves. The real skill was in turning flour, water, salt, and time into exceptional bread.

We respect those fundamentals.

It's 2026, though, and we like to have some fun. You'll find plenty of pizzas on our menu piled high with bold, unexpected ingredients. We can push the boundaries because we understand the foundation. Great pizza doesn't come from hiding bad dough under a mountain of toppings it comes from getting the bread right first.

Pizza is bread with toppings, not toppings with bread.

And definitely not a compressed, lifeless glutenless disc that's just there to hold the cheese.
